How Do I Enable WebGL?
To bring you the best interactive map experience, we rely on WebGL, a powerful 3D graphics tool. Depending on your browser, WebGL may already be available by default. We have a table below of what browser versions support WebGL.
Different browsers support WebGL to varying degrees. If you are having trouble, these are some quick options to try:
- Try a different browser
If you currently can't use WebGL, the first and easiest solution is to try a diffrent browser. Chrome has the longest history of WebGL support.
- Update your browser
In some cases, your browser may need to be updated to a version that supports WebGL. Compare your browser version against the table in the 'Browsers With Default WebGL Support' section.
- Manually enable WebGL
If switching browsers is not an optiong, you may still be able to use WebGL by manually enabling WebGL. This is particularly in the case of Safari. See Enable WebGL on Safari.
- Update your computer's video drivers
This varies by computer.
Browsers With Default WebGL Support
WebGL is supported on Safari 9 (including iPad), the latest version of Chrome, the latest version of Firefox, and Microsoft Edge 13. Below is a more complete table of what browsers support WebGL. In cases of 'partial support' the browser itself can support WebGL but you may need to update your video drivers.
|Internet Explorer||Edge||Firefox||Chrome||Safari||Opera||iOS Safari||Opera Mini||Android Browser||Chrome For Android|
Enable WebGL on Safari
WebGL is not supported on Safari by default. Users have found that the Chrome browser handles WebGL better, but if you prefer to use Safari you can manually enable WebGL by following these quick instructions:
- Open the "Safari" menu and select "Preferences."
- Click the "Advanced" tab in the "Preferences" window.
- At the bottom of the window, check the "Show Develop" menu in menu bar checkbox.
- Open the "Develop" menu in the menu bar and select "Enable WebGL."
